In the opening message of the 10x series, Rev. Terence Gray invites us to see the Ten Commandments not as outdated rules or a ladder to earn God’s favor, but as a gift given to people who have already been rescued by grace. Focusing on the first commandment, Pastor Terence reminds us that God delivered Israel from slavery before calling them into a new way of life, revealing that obedience flows from freedom, not the other way around. As he explores God’s declaration, “You shall have no other gods before me,” he challenges us to examine the subtle idols that compete for our devotion, from success and achievement to relationships, ministry, and self-reliance. The heart of the message is that true human flourishing begins when we rightly understand who God is and who God is not. When God confronts the false gods in our lives, it is not to diminish us but to free us for the life we were created to live. Through Christ, we are invited to leave behind the patterns of spiritual bondage and grow into the freedom of wholehearted worship. May God give us the courage to surrender every rival allegiance and discover the joy of living as truly free people.
